Apparently – having decided he didn’t already have enough enemies – Trump went on a cyber-blitz against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this week, railing against his failure to pass Obamacare repeal.

Senator Mitch McConnell said I had "excessive expectations," but I don't think so. After 7 years of hearing Repeal & Replace, why not done?

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 9, 2017

Can you believe that Mitch McConnell, who has screamed Repeal & Replace for 7 years, couldn't get it done. Must Repeal & Replace ObamaCare!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 10, 2017

Mitch, get back to work and put Repeal & Replace, Tax Reform & Cuts and a great Infrastructure Bill on my desk for signing. You can do it!

Trump’s decision to attack the most powerful member of the Senate is curious at best, idiotic at worst. He’d be wise to remember that McConnell and his Senate lackeys are the last bulwarks against himself and impeachment. If the Republicans in Congress turn on their president and decide Pence in the Oval Office suits their interests better, Trump will be evicted faster than a low-income family from a Jared Kushner property.

McConnell has been largely silent as the attacks roll in, but today he responded. CNN’s Manu Raju says that several reporters asked McConnell to comment on Trump’s tweets. McConnell said he was “disappointed” before proceeding silently to his office.

McConnell refuses to comment on Trump saying he's disappointed in him and about president's attacks. Walks in silence back to his office

McConnell rarely answers qs in halls – and has no problem walking in silence next to reporters asking him questions, as he just did with us

The Senate Majority Leader is brooding, and it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he’s cooking up a response to Trump. If this fight explodes into a full blown Republican civil war, Trump could quickly find himself outnumbered and – since he has very little understanding of government – quickly outmaneuvered. The GOP ghouls are starting to each other alive.
