Last week, CNN’s Jim Acosta became a target of conservative rage when he had the audacity to take the side of the Statue of Liberty in a press conference in which White House aide Stephen Miller justified President Trump’s proposed immigration restrictions with racist, un-American rhetoric.

Now, Acosta is calling out Trump for his part in today’s white supremacist violence that left one dead and 19 others injured in Virginia.

Prior to Trump’s press conference, Acosta pointed to the movement that elected Trump last year:

These are the consequences of sanitizing white supremacists who seek to be rebranded as part of American "right." They are peddling hatred.

— Jim Acosta (@Acosta) August 12, 2017

Nevertheless, he expressed hope that Trump would rise above politics and do what is right:

This is when Trump can seize the bully pulpit for good. Time to condemn neo-Nazis and white supremacists in no uncertain terms.

— Jim Acosta (@Acosta) August 12, 2017

However, Trump did not rise at all. He pandered to his racist base and gave tacit approval to the racial hatred that continues to plague our nation. Acosta fired off two tweets, carefully to remain apolitical, but he is clearly appalled by the shameful lack of leadership and integrity from our Commander-in-Chief. We should all be.

Trump: "We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides."

Note the President using the term "many sides." Given the chance, he didn't condemn these white supremacists and neo-Nazis by name. https://t.co/SiBDqGCwYv
