The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the killing of three aid workers by Boko Haram terrorists during an attack on Thursday in Rann, Borno State.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan on Saturday, the opposition party described as sad and disheartening, the incessant killings of innocent and well-meaning individuals in the country.

It accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government of lying to Nigerians, saying they claimed to have routed out Boko Haram terrorists in the country.

The allegation might not be unconnected to the comments made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, that the insurgents have been degraded.

He, however, admitted that the war against Boko Haram insurgency has not ended, noting that the terrorists have not been completely defeated.

“If the operating word is ‘totally’, the answer is no obviously – but has Boko Haram been degraded? I will say yes, terribly so. You can compare then and now, they have been terribly, terribly degraded,” Adesina had said during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

But the PDP alleged that defenceless individuals were being mowed down by marauders because those vested with the duty to protect them were busy telling them lies.

It also faulted the withdrawal of troops before the purported abduction of 110 girls from a government school in Dapchi, Yobe State, claiming it has raised speculations.

The statement read in part: “We urge the international community to compel the Presidency to come out with the truth on the alleged compromising of security in flashpoints, as was reported in the sudden withdrawal of troops from Dapchi, Yobe state, just before the abduction of our 110 daughters.

“Nigerians have become weary, despondent and disappointed as insurgents, murderers and marauders rove our land while the Presidency engaged in cosmetic reactions. We ask: what was the actual security situation in Rann and what was the information available to the community before the attack?”

The PDP condoled with the families of the deceased and urge all well-meaning Nigerians and groups, particularly international bodies to rise up and do all within the laws to assist the nation.
